About APCOA Parking
APCOA Group is one of Europe's largest parking operators, with more than 50 years of experience in the parking industry. The company manages approximately 1.6 million parking spaces across more than 12,000 locations in 12 European countries.
Its operations cover a wide range of locations, including city centres, shopping centres, hotels, hospitals and airports. APCOA works with both private and public-sector property owners to manage parking facilities and related mobility services.
Because many of its sites are drop-off zones or barrier-controlled car parks, charges are often issued for short overstays or for stopping in a restricted area.
How APCOA operates
- Runs airport drop-off zones, station car parks and hospital sites.
- ANPR and barrier systems record entry and exit times.
- Pre-booked parking is matched against your registration.
- As a BPA member, rejected appeals can be escalated to POPLA.
- Hospital trusts can sometimes cancel charges at their discretion.
Common reasons they issue charges
- • Stopping in a drop-off zone for longer than the free period
- • Using a bus or taxi lane at an airport terminal
- • Overstaying a pre-booked airport parking slot
- • Failure to pay at a barrierless station car park
PCN process: what to expect
1. PCN Issued
A Parking Charge Notice is issued to the registered keeper, usually with a discounted amount for early payment.
2. Reminder Notices
If unpaid and unappealed, reminder letters follow and the discount is withdrawn.
3. Debt Recovery
The case may be passed to a debt recovery agent, who often add their own fees.
4. Legal Action
As a last step a County Court claim can be issued. It can still be defended on the merits.
